N.B. TLRP generic project work ended in September 2009. The below information is for reference only.
TLRP-BEI publishing partnership - guidelines for Programme and
project personnel concerning submissions to services maintained
by the British Education Index office
The publishing partnership between the TLRP and the British Education
Index (BEI) office exists to promote the wider visibility of the
work of the Programme and of individual projects. BEI office information
services are routinely used by large numbers of researchers within
and outside the UK. The BEI office has agreed to represent information
arising from the Programme and its projects within the office's
various information services, identifying the Programme verbally
and graphically, as appropriate.
Following a brief explanation of the nature of the services, this
paper identifies sites and documentation supporting the submission
of information to those services.
BEI information services
The British Education Index routinely indexes educational periodical
literature published in the UK, together with report and conference
literature where originators submit such literature to the BEI office.
Education-line is a freely accessible database of the full text
of conference papers, working papers and electronic literature.
Education-line acquires texts directly from their authors.
The Education Conference Listings Service presents a freely accessible
calendar for education and training related conferences as notified
by their organisers.
The Education Conference Programme Service presents freely searchable
programmes and event archives for conferences of organisations which
sponsor the service on behalf of their delegates and organisation
members.
The British Education Internet Resource Catalogue is a freely accessible
database of information about professionally evaluated and described
internet sites.
Submitting information to BEI information services
In all cases the BEI office will be dependent, in part, on authors'
identification of the connection between information submitted and
the Programme.
Print publications
The BEI will routinely index articles authored by Programme or project
personnel where those articles appear in educational journals published
in the UK. Copies of books, reports, and other printed literature
should be sent to:
British Education Index
Brotherton Library
University of Leeds
Leeds LS2 9JT
(Offprints of journal articles can also be sent to ensure their
inclusion in the BEI.)
Electronic publications
The Education-line database is the official repository for electronic
texts produced by the Programme and its projects. Submission guidelines
for Education-line can be found at http://www.leeds.ac.uk/educol/guide.htm.
The BEI office will notify the Programme office or projects about
the stable Education-line URLs for texts to facilitate linking from
Programme or project websites.
Event information
The Education Conference Listings Service will convey information
about appropriate Programme and project events. Submission guidelines
for this service can be found at http://www.leeds.ac.uk/educol/confnot.htm,
together with a notification form through which information can
be sent.
The Education Conference Programme Service can be used to present
searchable programmes of more substantial events. More information
about this service can be found at http://brs.leeds.ac.uk/~beiwww/becpinfo.htm.
Internet resources
The British Education Internet Resource Catalogue can be used to
alert people to the existence of a project website, for example,
or a database or dataset which cannot be represented through the
other services. Suggestions for inclusion in the catalogue can be
sent through the submission form at http://brs.leeds.ac.uk/~beiwww/beircsubmit.htm.
