The Home School Knowledge Exchange (HSKE) project led by Martin Hughes at the University of Bristol produced a DVD entitled 'Ready or Not: Using drama to support transfer from primary to secondary school' in Summer 2007.
The DVD raises some key issues concerning primary/secondary transfer and shows how drama activities can be used to help pupils and their parents address the issues involved. The film features teachers, parents and pupils talking about transfer and drama specialists talking about how the activities can be used in practice. A separate section features a play-in-rehearsal with actors dramatising the transfer stories of 4 families.
The video can be used in many different ways, such as:
- to provide teachers with ideas for drama-based activities
- to raise issues about transfer with children and parents
- to increase awareness among students in initial teacher education
- to act as a stimulus on INSET days
The video is the product of a collaboration between the Cardiff-based Theatre in Education group Theatr Iolo, the Home School Knowledge Exchange Project based at the University of Bristol, and the award-winning TV company Focus Productions.
