This was a one-day workshop organised jointly by the RCBN and the Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) based at the University of Essex (formerly the UK Data Archive and the Institute for Social and Economic Research). Introduction to QSR NVivo software for qualitative analysis, Newcastle University Ann Lewins presented an initial overview of the main highlights and longer term usage of QSR NVivo, a software package designed to assist researchers in the management and analysis
of qualitative data. This was an introductory course to the basic features of the package. The training included practical, computer-based sessions in addition to seminars and covered: coding, exploring, searching and organising data; memoing; and visual display of data connections.

Introduction to Complex Project Management, London
This workshop introduced the basic concepts of project management, explored the issues particularly relevant to engaging in (teaching and learning) research project management, and pointed people in the direction of software they might wish to use in managing their research projects. The workshop was jointly conducted by David Parsons, who is a specialist project management trainer (largely for business, but also for academic researchers) and members of the RCB Network (particularly Prof Gareth Rees and Dr Laurence Moore, both of whom have extensive experience of managing research projects).
