These workshops are aimed at both new researchers with little or no experience in writing applications for small scale research projects and those interested in developing their methodological skills. In addition, the workshops aim to provide an opportunity for meeting other researchers informally and for discussion of some of the wider issues which are pertinent to new researchers.

Applying for grant funding

This workshop will provide an introduction to designing and writing grant proposals, as well as an overview of different funding bodies. Participants will have the opportunity to critique existing proposals and work collaboratively on the construction of a research project.

Introducing quantitative research skills

These workshops will provide an overview to the use of numbers in educational research. They are aimed at researchers looking to extend their awareness of work involving numbers, in particular the steps involved in preparing data for statistical analysis. There will be an emphasis on techniques which combine quantitative and qualitative methods in educational research.

The event is free to Teaching and Learning Research Programme (TLRP) researchers, however, researchers from outside the programme are very welcome and will be asked to contribute £30 towards the cost of the workshops. There are a limited number of places, so bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis. If there is sufficient demand, the workshops will be repeated.
