Developing a Systematic Review
Specifics of Undertaking a Review
Systematic reviews are now a key decision making tool in many areas of evidence based policy and practice. This one-day workshop will introduce interested participants to the history and rationale of systematic reviewing, exploring several different approaches to the conduct of a systematic review, and outline the main stages involved in undertaking a systematic review. This workshop will be of interest to researchers, practitioners, and/or policy makers who wish to familiarise themselves with the basic principles of systematic reviewing, who wish to be able to read and critique systematic reviews, as well as to those individuals who would like to embark on accredited training in undertaking systematic reviews.
The workshop will be conducted by the Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre), a stream of the Social Science Research Unit at the Institute of Education. *Participation in the workshop is a prerequisite for attendance at a further two one-day workshops that will provide participants with the skills to conduct systematic reviews, and which will enable participants to conduct EPPI-Centre accredited systematic reviews. These workshops will be offered in June if there is sufficient demand. Individuals may wish to attend one or all of the workshops. Attendance at all three workshops, and satisfactory completion of assessment will constitute 20 credits at Masters level at the Institute of Education.
The workshop is free to all Teaching and Learning Research Programme (TLRP) researchers and all travel expenses will be paid. Places are also available to individuals booking through TLRP who are not members at a subsidised cost of £100 per workshop. There are a limited number of places, so bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis. If there is sufficient demand, the workshop will be repeated and this may provide an alternative date for those individuals who cannot attend the workshop on 31 March.
