This is a one-day workshop organised jointly by the RCBN and the Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS) based at the University of Essex (formerly the UK Data Archive and the Institute for Social and Economic Research). The workshop will provide both conceptual and practical advice on the use of archived 'qualitative 'and 'quantitative' data. The day will also focus on using archived data sources for teaching and learning research, although the 'hands-on' sessions will allow participants to consider their use in whatever field they choose.
The workshop is organised in two parts (see draft programme below). The first part of the workshop considers the creation and depositing of data - a requirement of all ESRC-funded research (and of all Teaching and Learning Research Programme projects). The second part of the workshop then provides participants with the opportunity to see how archived data can be used in current and future research.
The workshop is free to all Teaching and Learning Research Programme (TLRP) researchers and all travel expenses will be paid. Places are also available to individuals who are not members of the TLRP at a subsidised cost of £30.There are a limited number of places, so bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis.
If there is sufficient demand, the workshop may be repeated and this may provide an alternative date for those individuals who cannot attend the workshop on 4th June.
If you would like more information and / or would like to book a place on the workshop (even if you cannot attend on June 4th), please get in touch with the RCBN office (RCBN@cf.ac.uk or 029 20 87 5345), or simply complete an RCBN booking form.
