Additionally, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) hosted an independent commission of inquiry into the future of adult learning (IFLL). Chaired by Sir David Watson, a former chair of TLRP's Steering Committee, the inquiry was launched on 25 September 2007 and reported in Spring 2009. The report was jointly authored by Professor Tom Schuller and Professor Sir David Watson: http://www.niace.org.uk/lifelonglearninginquiry/
Experts from government, business, academia, trade unions, public service, providers and the voluntary and community sector, as well as learners, came together in a process to identify a broad consensus for the future direction of adult learning policy in the UK.
The commission undertook a detailed assessment of evidence from the UK and beyond, including commissioned research and analysis and the collection of written and oral evidence.
TLRP's Associate Director Miriam David submitted a 'Memorandum of Evidence' to the IFLL detailing the strengths and weaknesses of the existing research evidence on the subject and TLRP's key messages for the Inquiry in Autumn 2008.
